Dan's Western Wear sits in the heart of Downtown Sheridan (population 16,000) nestled in the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains, just off Interstate 25 in Northeastern Wyoming.
The store was started in 1919 by Thomas George, who had just brought his family over with him from Greece, including his son, Dan, who was then nine.
Dan quickly learned the art of shoe cobbling and worked in his dad's store, repairing shoes and boots for the ranchers, cowboys and coal miners when Wyoming was still a wild frontier cattle town.
Dan eventually bought his dad's store, which was then a few blocks south of its present location. His inventory gradually expanded from boots to include western hats, jeans and ranchwear.
Always popular with locals, Dan's soon became a favorite with the Eastern dudes and big game hunters who descended on Sheridan every Summer and Fall, drawn by the natural beauty of the Big Horn Mountains and abundant Elk and Mule Deer.
Dan passed away in 2001 at age 91 and today his son Ted, his daughter Deanna and her husband Terrance continue to operate the store.
